The 24th Tirana International Film Festival takes place in Tirana, Albania, under the theme Bring It Back! Humanography. It combines features and short films with retrospectives, training and industry activity.
The 2026 edition
The Luchino Visconti retrospective includes Obsession, Rocco and His Brothers and The Innocent. The North Macedonia focus presents work by Teona Strugar Mitevska and Milcho Manchevski. A collaboration with Swiss Films brings together Swiss fiction and animation shorts, while another programme examines Dora García's video art from 2001 to 2024.
Participants and cultural context
The fifth Screenplay ContesTIFF develops and presents screenplays. Teona Strugar Mitevska and producer Labina Mitevska give masterclasses. Ana Nedeljković and Nikola Majdak lead an animation workshop for children and teenagers with the TUMO centre. The student selection brings together work from the University of Arts Albania and the University of Pristina.
Documented history
Founded in 2003, the festival holds qualifying status for the short-film Oscars and Student Academy Awards and is eligible for the European Film Awards. Mother, Tirana's 2026 opening film, had its world premiere at the 82nd Venice Film Festival in 2025.
