Morelia International Film Festival 2026 · Mexico

Morelia, Mexico, hosts the 24th Morelia International Film Festival, with in-person screenings also in Pátzcuaro and an online selection. The programme connects Mexican cinema with international films and guests.

A story beginning in 2003

The first FICM opened on 3 October 2003. Its roots include the Mexican Short Film Days, established by Daniela Michel and Enrique Ortiga at the Cineteca Nacional in 1994 to showcase young filmmakers.

Mexican selection and international connections

The 2026 competition comprises 96 films across the Michoacán, Mexican Short Film, Mexican Documentary and Mexican Feature sections. Juan Antonio Bayona chairs the feature jury. A partnership with Cannes Critics' Week has continued since 2003 and brings a selection from its 65th edition.

Announced opening

  1. Morelia International Film Festival 2026 · Mexico - Day

    • In the evening, the opening ceremony in Morelia presents Jonás Cuarón's Campeón gabacho. The announcement plans attendance by the director, producer Alfonso Cuarón and some cast members, without giving an exact time.

This summarises the opening announced for 16 October 2026 in Morelia, Mexico, rather than the complete programme. No room or exact time absent from that announcement is assigned. The official calendar covers other screenings.

Venues and online selection

Morelia venues in Mexico include Cinépolis Morelia Centro and Teatro Mariano Matamoros; Pátzcuaro has Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin. From 16 to 25 October 2026, IMCINE's Nuestro Cine MX announces 44 official-selection shorts free to stream following registration and email confirmation. Free access applies to that online selection, not every in-person screening.
